Bishop McNamara High School hosted its fourth annual Academic Signing Day for the Class of 2019 on May 6, 2019. The capstone event of the assembly each year is the video, artfully produced by Director of Instructional Technology Mr. Matthew Buckley '98, where each of the 215 students in the Class of 2019 reveals where they have chosen to go to college.

Graduates of the Class of 2019 will be attending colleges and universities across the United States including The United States Air Force Academy, The University of Virginia, The University of Maryland, College Park, The University of Notre Dame, Spelman College, Hampton University, St. Edward's University, Towson University, and many more (For the full list of colleges, go to Class of 2019 Colleges & Universities). The conception of the event at Bishop McNamara drew on the inspiration of former first lady Michelle Obama's Reach Higher initiative that seeks to encourage young people to "reach higher" by seeking higher education.
A focus for this year's program was to highlight students in the Class of 2019 who, by going onto higher education, will be the first generation of their family to do so (go to First Generation). The program was marked by an excellent testimonial speech by first year BMHS teacher Ms. Ashley McNeill about the challenges and benefits of life in college, a panel of BMHS seniors who reflected on their college selection experience for our underclassman, a loud and boisterous cheer for the seven seniors who received a full academic or merit based scholarship (go to Full Scholarship), and a special tribute to all our faculty and staff who wrote more than 475 letters of recommendation for the members of the Class of 2019.
BMHS would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Auchmoody, Director of School and College Counseling and Alicia Oglesby, Assistant Director of College Counseling, for their commitment and dedication to help guild members of the Class of 2019 through the college selection process. Also, special thanks to Mrs. Susanne Mendiola, Administrative Assistant to the Counseling Center, for her work and efforts to process the thousands of applications our seniors do each year to insure their timely arrival to colleges and universities across the country. Finally, special thanks to Senior Class Moderator Ms. Laura Keller for serving as the Masters of Ceremonies for the event and to Dr. Nigel Traylor, Principal, and Dr. Marco Clark, President/CEO for offering words of inspiration that uplifted the event. In all, Academic Signing Day stands as a significant marker and powerful testament to Bishop McNamara's capacity to further its vision to form empowered leaders, inspired by the Gospel, who transform the world.
