The National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL) honored four Bishop McNamara juniors in a ceremony at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Monday evening, April 8. In addition, two of our seniors performed on stage in the Terrace Theatre for this prestigious event.
The Annual Awards for Excellence in the Arts Program, sponsored by NSAL, celebrates Washington, D.C area high school juniors. This year, the Fine Arts Faculty chose Sadia Bangura, a vocalist with our Choir Program to receive the Award for Excellence. Honorees of the Certificate of Merit include: Cole Harriston, Drama, Mary Horecky, Visual Arts, and Kendall Tyler, Dance.
Last year's honorees were invited to audition to perform for this year's ceremony. Among the selected performers were current seniors, Lauren Hawkins and Haedn Rho. Lauren danced the choreography of DaKiya Lambert, to the music of The Life of the Party, from The Wild Party, by Andrew Lippa. Haedn played Salut d'Amour, opus 12, by Sir Edward Elgar, on the violin, accompanied by Paul Rossen on piano.
Each year, the NSAL invites area high schools to nominate one student for the Award for Excellence, and up to three Certificate of Merit students. The students must be current juniors in the art forms of Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Literature, Music and Musical Theatre. This year, twenty-three area high schools were represented at the awards ceremony.
