Saint Brother Andre Bessette, the “Miracle Man of Montreal,” became the first canonized saint in the Congregation of Holy Cross on October 17, 2010. Alfred Bessette came to the Holy Cross Brothers in 1870 carrying with him a note from his pastor saying, "I am sending you a saint." The Brothers found that difficult to believe given his chronic illness and his lack of education. As a result, he was assigned the position of doorkeeper of Notre Dame College in Montreal. In this role, Brother Andre was responsible for greeting visitors and tending to their needs. For God, this assignment was an opportunity to use Brother Andre, tending to the needs of the many sick who arrived at their doors. Since the time he was installed as doorkeeper, thousands of miraculous healings were attributed to his intercession over the following decades. Today, stop by the statue outside of the chapel and write down an intention that has been weighing heavily on your heart and offer it up to God, through the intercession of St. Br. Andre Bessette.
