Ave Crux, Spes Unica, the motto of the Congregation of the Holy Cross.  It can be translated to mean “Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope.” As members of the Holy Cross family, we can AND SHOULD reflect on what this phrase means. Certainly, it tells us that Jesus Christ, through his suffering and resurrection saves us from sin.  It gives us a sense of hope that our own suffering may indeed lead us to a resurrection with Christ. But we must also consider that this phrase is meant to be lived out through our own compassion to others. We are called, though we suffer and struggle in life, to bring hope to others, as Christ brings hope to us. As you walk through the corridor outside of the Andy Mona Student Center, walk with Christ through the Stations of the Cross.  Think about the pain and suffering his mother and disciples experienced, but also, recognize the hope that it creates. As you get to the end of the stations, look up, and see the motto Ave Crux Spes Unica. Commit yourself to bringing hope today...to a classmate, a teacher, a relative and live out the motto of Holy Cross.
