Lady Mustangs Basketball #1 Nationally!!

Bishop McNamara High School Girls Basketball ranked #1 in the nationIn an UNPRECEDENTED SWEEP, the Lady Mustangs were named the number one basketball team in the nation by espnW, Max Preps, and most recently USA Today and Blue Star!! This truly is an amazing feat, and we couldn't be more proud of our team - congratulations girls! You absolutely deserve this honor, we can't wait to see how much farther you go!

Join us for a very special game on Jan. 22 to cheer the Lady Mustangs on to victory against St. John's, ranked third nationally by similar renowned athletics organizations. 

Bishop McNamara High School Girls' Varsity Basketball Team Ranked #1 Nationally

Bishop McNamara High School's Girls' Varsity Basketball Team has received national recognition for its record this season, and for the incredible athletic prowess of the team members.

Thus far in the season, the Lady Mustangs have won every game with a 19-0 record. Out of the more than 37,000 high schools in the United States, they are ranked number one in the nation by espnW, MaxPreps and similar athletics organizations. To date they have played eight nationally-ranked teams.

Key players on the team are seniors Jakia Brown-Turner and Aliyah Matharu. Both have been recognized in the media for their extraordinary athletic ability on the court, and for their commitment to the sport and to their team. Jakia has committed to North Carolina State for college, and Aliyah has committed to Mississippi State; both schools are ranked among the top ten collegiate basketball programs in the nation. Additionally, Head Coach Frank Oliver was named WCAC Coach of the Year last season. Other standout players include Madison Scott, who plays guard and is ranked second in the country at her position, Liatu King and Aniyah Bell.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, Bishop McNamara High School's Girls' Varsity Basketball Team will host St. John's College High School for a 6:45 p.m. game. St. John's, by comparison to Bishop McNamara, is ranked third in the nation in similar national polls. Press are welcome and encouraged to attend the Jan. 22 game.
