The Girl's Basketball Team, currently ranked # 1 in the espnW and Max Preps polls, won the Title IX Classic title over the Christmas recess, solidifying its position in these national polls. Bishop McNamara (12-0) beat Roland Park Country to claim the Title IX Classic Championship. After winning the Crescom Bank Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina a week earlier, Bishop McNamara took over the top spot in these national polls from conference rival St. John's. At the Crescom Bank Invitational, Junior Madison Scott was named tournament MVP, and NC State signee Jakia Brown-Turner was an all-tournament selection. Bishop McNamara has defeated some of the nation's top teams, such as Hamilton Heights Christian (Tenn.) and Southeast Raleigh (N.C.). The Mustangs have won 10 games by double digits.
The Mustangs are seeking their first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title since 2008. The Girl's Basketball Team, led by Head Coach Frank Oliver, starts the new year against league rivals No. 9 Paul VI away on Friday, January 4 and they face St. John's at home on January 22. As Coach Oliver noted, "We're still a work in progress." "We have not played our best basketball yet. We're hoping to hit our stride in January." Congratulations to our Girl's Basketball Team on this outstanding achievement and good luck with the remainder of the season as they head into league action against other excellent WCAC programs.
