The Science and Ecology Explorers Club gathered on Dec 12 to make 2 varieties of vegetarian soup. Each year we hold a "Midterm Madness Soup Sample Give Away" featuring vegetarian choices and recipes to encourage everyone to make food selections that help the planet. Many people have never tried a wide variety of vegetarian options and are hesitant to experiment with a recipe unless they know how good it can be. Free samples seemed to a way to get people to try something new! This year we are featuring vegetarian chili and Moroccan stew. The chili is rich with tomatoes and the Moroccan stew features a blend of exotic spices. Students prepped the veggies and did a whole lot of chopping to make this work! The samples and recipe give away will be on Monday the 17th in room 203 during Prime Time.
Chefs included Lauren Hawkins '19, Debra Henderson '19, Morgan McCann '19, Lindsay Newman '20, Ryson Oakley '19, Matthew Payne '19, Alissa Smith '22, Riley Tinsley '19, and Nicky Zhang '20. The students made Veggie Chili and Moroccan Stew which both tasted terrific!
Mrs. Steeger and the SEE Club send a special thanks to teachers Mr. Klimczak and Mr. Lee! Mr. Klimczak loaned us cooking equipment from the Food Science class and Chef Tebarts from Sage helped set up cutting stations. Most of the kitchen items came from our new elective Food Science class, courtesy of Mr. Klimczak, and Mr. Lee stayed late to help us get on the right track.
"I think I had the most fun doing this activity - so many of you were really interested in what we were doing and were so flexible - especially helping out to clean up was greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!" said Mrs. Steeger after the event.
The Science and Ecology Explorers Club, under the able direction of Science teacher, Mrs. Jan Steeger, is for anyone interested in making the world a better place. Typical activities include visiting a museum or natural area such as Jug Bay, Midterm Madness vegetarian soup sample give away, and quick science investigations or experiments. They also sell veggie and flower plants in the spring in order to raise funds for the various garden projects around campus.
