BMHS has joined the MCC Caring Schools NetworkThe Counseling Center at Bishop McNamara High School is honored to join the MCC Caring Schools Network!

Building strong school culture is one primary component of work in social-emotional learning ("SEL"), along with supporting and building adult capacities, supporting high quality relationships between students and adults in the school, and using evidence-based skill-building strategies in the classroom and around the school. A strong school culture provides a supportive environment for students to learn skills, have opportunities to practice those skills, and be able to see adults modeling the skills. The stress students experience outside of school is often demonstrated through their behavior in school, which disrupts teaching and learning, frustrates teachers, and contributes to schools not feeling like a community.

Making Caring Common ("MCC") helps teachers with knowledge and concrete strategies to teach students the SEL skills they need to succeed in school and to foster learning environments that are safe, supportive, and respectful. MCC resources aim to expand students' sphere of empathy and to help make schools more inclusive, to strengthen teacher-student relationships, and to help schools deal with gender, racial and economic class bias.
