Bishop McNamara High School officially announces that Andrew Bannister, a BMHS alumnus from the class of 2009, will be joining our athletics staff as the new Head Coach for the Varsity Wrestling Team.
During his time at Bishop McNamara High School, Coach Bannister was a member of the wrestling team until his graduation. He was an incredibly competitive athlete who performed exceedingly well as the Mustangs competed in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
After graduating from Bishop McNamara High School, Coach Bannister pursued an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame College of Ohio. During his time there, he was a starter on the wrestling team and helped them become the 2014 DII National Wrestling Champions. When he finished his collegiate education, Andrew returned to BMHS to serve on the faculty as a Moreau Fellow and as a mathematics teacher.
"It is great to have Andrew back as a coach," said BMHS Athletics Director Anthony Johnson. "His supreme talent and will to win as a student wrestler will transfer over to his coaching. Andrew has always been a strong competitor and I look forward to him bringing that competitiveness to the team."
As an educator, Coach Bannister hopes to be able to create an active and productive environment to inspire his student-athletes in a positive manner. It is his goal to teach students to become role models for others in society.
