Financial Aid & Scholarship Giving

Bishop McNamara High School makes a special appeal for giving to student financial aid giving. Did you know that last year 65% of Bishop McNamara students received financial aid and that the average amount awarded was approximately $4000?

Currently, however, the school’s financial aid program meets only 40% of a student’s demonstrated need. Financial aid giving often makes the difference about whether a student stays in school to fulfill his or her dream to earn a Bishop McNamara High School diploma. Therefore, make financial aid support a principal reason why you give this year!

A major priority for Bishop McNamara High School remains increasing scholarship support for exceptional and highly qualified students, particularly those who come from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds who embody the spirit and character of the Bishop McNamara community.

Our goal is to ensure that 10% of our student population will receive full need-based scholarships to attend Bishop McNamara. Bishop McNamara stands uniquely positioned to meet this urgent community need and to serve as a model for both Catholic and private schools across the country.

Brother David Andrews C.S.C Scholarship

This scholarship pays homage to the first President of Bishop McNamara High School, Brother David Andrews, C.S.C. Through his commitment to service, dedication to Holy Cross and strict adherence to rigorous academic curriculum, Brother David put Bishop McNamara on its path to excellence.

Byrne and Osborne Family Scholarship

The Byrne and Osborne Family Scholarship was established to honor the lives and memory of John and Doris Byrne and James and Lucille Osborne by their 15 children in thanksgiving for the faith and education their parents provided them.

This grant is provided annually to a student who maintains a minimum 2.6 GPA or higher, is in need of financial assistance and is in good academic and disciplinary standing with the School.

Unforgettable Spirit Randell Duncan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed by the BMHS Class of 2000 in memory of their classmate, a man of great spirit, creativity, and character. The scholarship is presented to a sophomore or junior student who develops a solution for youth and/or young adult violence so that we can all make the necessary steps towards peace. Students are invited to apply for this scholarship by submitting an essay or artistic program addressing the issue of youth violence. Herndon Family Art Scholarship

The Herndon Family Art Scholarship shall be presented annually to preferably a rising senior at Bishop McNamara High School at the discretion of the Art Instructor. The young woman or man who receives this $500 scholarship must exhibit a love for and commitment to the visual arts and remain in good academic standing.

Sister Sharon Kozuch Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was founded in honor of beloved La Reine High School teacher and mentor, Sister Sharon Kozuch and is offered to an 11th grade woman who exemplifies the qualities of faith, enthusiasm for learning, co-curricular participation, and demonstrates financial need.

Michael J. Mammano Memorial Scholarship

The Michael J. Mammano Memorial Scholarship shall be presented annually to a rising senior at Bishop McNamara High School who is a member of the school's varsity football team. The award, in the amount of $1,500 will be given at the discretion of the Administrative Council. The student must be in good academic standing and should possess the qualities of good sportsmanship, a team player, and someone who works hard to achieve his goals. The student should also show a commitment to the studies of mathematics and science. These are traits which truly mirrored the life of Mike Mammano.

Project PRIDE Scholarships

The Project PRIDE Programs was established in 1999 as an admissions inclusion program to assist our most profoundly at risk students. The purpose of the program is to begin work with 20-25 incoming 9th grade students who present one or more significant risk factors for school failure. Willa Benning Scholarship

Created by Dr. Nigel Traylor to honor the Willa Benning families and their commitment to education, this scholarship is awarded to a student who strives for academic excellence and perseveres despite adversity.

Heather Gossart Project PRIDE Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to one or more 9th grade students who have been accepted into the Project PRIDE academic inclusion program and demonstrates verifiable financial need. Scholarship is renewable annually.

"Focus" Scholarship

This scholarship is presented to a freshman student who has demonstrated and sustained positive motivation toward learning throughout his/her first academic year of high school.

Created by Dr. Nigel Traylor to honor the Traylor and Debois families and their commitment to education, this scholarship is awarded to a student who strives for academic excellence and perseveres despite adversity.

Eugenia "Toni" Milner Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed by the family and friends of the much beloved distinguished faculty member Mrs. Toni Milner and is offered annually to a young man and woman who demonstrates those qualities of academic effort, co-curricular involvement and service to others that Mrs. Milner so valued and witnessed to her students. Priority consideration is given to students who meet this criteria and exhibit financial need.

The Couplin III '09/Carmichael '09 Scholarship

Kevin E. O'Neil Scholarship

The Kevin E. O'Neil (KEO) Scholarship will be awarded annually to a male student at Bishop McNamara High School in memory of Kevin O'Neil through a scholarship established by his family and Passports to College, Inc. The honoree will be named annually at the Mother/Son Brunch.

The Anthony F. "Tony" Mammano '82 Scholarship

Anthony "Tony" Mammano ‘82 was a beloved alumnus, and long-time football coach for the Bishop McNamara Mustangs. Tony was an inspiration, a mentor and a good friend to his BMHS family. His dedication to the School and to his community led to him becoming a BMHS Hall of Fame member and a Caritas winner; the latter being the highest honor that the School can bestow.

This scholarship was established to honor Tony’s legacy and advance his dream of empowering athletes with a “clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose” mentality.

Roscoe C. Perkins, Jr. Aeronautical Scholarship

The Roscoe C. Perkins, Jr. Aeronautical Scholarship Award will be presented annually to a rising sophomore enrolled at Bishop McNamara High School and is renewable each year to the student for three (3) years as long as the scholarship criteria are met.

The recipient will be a student who has proven to be of good moral character, active in the community, and participating in faith-based service.

Stewart Family Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed by the Stewart Family, who have operated the Stewart Funeral Home for more than 100 years. The scholarship is awarded annually to a young woman or man at Bishop McNamara High School who daily lives out the ideals of faith, leadership and service. Financial need is a consideration.

Thomas D. Wyatt Memorial Scholarship

The P’s & Q’s Scholarship

Craig Glover-Hines ‘09 created The P's & Q's Scholarship to give back to an institution that cemented the values instilled in him by his late grandfather, Mr. Thomas Glover, and to acknowledge the inner qualities - the Potential - in all students, which will lead them to their Prime. Thomas was Craig’s hero, and gave him the foundation which established qualities that Craig is passing down to the next generation. Most importantly, Thomas taught Craig how to be the Christian adult that he is today.

The most pivotal moment in your life will be when you truly believe that you have potential. That moment is so powerful because your belief is what provokes your purpose and that is what starts igniting your passions. This scholarship of $500 will be presented to a student each year meeting the following criteria.

Named in honor of Dr. Robert Van der Waag's parents Walter and Maureen, this scholarship is given annually to a Bishop McNamara sophomore student who demonstrates a commitment to faith, service, and is in good academic standing.
