Traditional African Music & Dance
Traditional African Music and Dance is an essential element of Africa's cultural heritage because it is the living expression of its philosophy, and the living memory of its evolution and cultural wealth over the centuries.
Few people in the West know much about Traditional African Music and Dance or are aware that it possesses precise rules and codified movements.
Specific and required skill sets and techniques in African drumming and dance are introduced, nurtured, instilled, and developed for general/specific knowledge in ancient traditions of music and dance forms with particular attention to its societal contexts and relevance.
This year's Sankofa Production celebrates the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.

Traditional African Music and Dance is a performing arts class. Students will learn the fundamentals by studying dances from countries of Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Guinea and Ivory Coast collaborated using dance theatre to bring our much expected, annual show every April: Sankofa Night.
