The Fine Arts Department at Bishop McNamara offers one of the most extensive arts educations in the Washington, DC area.

Creativity and self-expression are essential components of a Bishop McNamara Fine Arts education. Our Fine Arts programs are uniquely placed in both the academic and co-curricular lives of the school. We offer courses and performance opportunities in Band, Broadcast Journalism/Film Production, Chorus, Dance, Orchestra, Theatre, and Visual Arts.

Jazz Band
Our Band and Orchestra program has a reputation for excellence throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC area. The study of instrumental music is an important component of providing students with a comprehensive music education.

Broadcast Studio

This program is the study and practice of broadcast journalism and film production. Our program emphasizes news-gathering, writing,  on-camera speaking, video recording, editing, and mass media. Students learn television production, digital video, studio and field production, lighting, and sound.

Choir

Choir

Our Choir Program at BMHS offers comprehensive music education in various styles of vocal singing. Students receive training in vocal production techniques, music theory, music history, and sight reading. They learn to balance performance and rehearsal schedules, all while maintaining a high level of academic excellence.

Classical Dance

Classical Dance
Our Classical Dance Program offers excellent training & comprehensive dance education in the classical styles of dance. Students are given the opportunity to engross themselves in the education of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical & contemporary technique, Improvisation, & composition in four levels of training.
 

Theatre

 Theatre Little Women
Our Theatre Program supports and stimulates creative expression and development while cultivating discipline, confidence, and critical thinking skills. In addition to dramatic acting and musical theatre, students learn production and theatre tech in sets, lights, sound, and costumes from beginning to advanced levels.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts - student art
The Bishop McNamara Visual Arts Program provides opportunities for our students to develop their understanding and appreciation of the visual by exposing students to sculpture and ceramics, computer graphics, painting, photography, graphic arts, mechanical drawing, art history and internet web page design.
 

Each school year, The Fine Arts Department highlights productions and concerts enabling students to demonstrate their creative accomplishments. All members of our community are invited to these outstanding student performances.
