Congratulations to Bishop McNamara senior Thomas Do of Camp Springs, Maryland, who won the first place St. Miguel Service Award "Illuminating the Way"  for the LaSallian Scholarship, which earned him a check of $700 dollars. Thomas also won the Carson Scholars Award of $1000 towards college. The Carson Award recognized him for his high academic achievement, commitment to his community needs, innovations, mobilization, and ongoing involvement.

At BMHS, Thomas takes AP and Honors level courses in Statistics and Anatomy & Physiology along with his other full coursework. He is currently a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society,  M.E.L.T. (McNamara Emerging Leadership Training), the President of Quo Vadi & Fiat Club (Vocations Club), and a member of the Fitness Club. He is involved at his church, St. Philip the Apostle, as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server and volunteer, and also does volunteer work with the Youth Group at Our Lady of Vietnam Catholic Church.  Thomas also volunteers and participates in many other church and community activities.

The LaSallian Alumni was an association that was founded in 1989 and officially recognized by the State of Virginia and the US Federal Government as a non-profit organization. The main activity of the association is to organize the LaSallian Education Program promoting the Lasallian education spirit among the Vietnamese youth. It includes the Academic Excellence Awards Program founded in 1990; the Service Awards are also called "Illuminating The Way" founded in 2001. The scholarship fund also provides assistance to poor students in Vietnam.

The Carson Scholars Fund, named after Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., recognizes  students across the nation, nominated by their schools, consistently demonstrating kindness towards others, dedication to their academics that is above and beyond, and commitment to their communities.  These inspiring students impress all around them with their compassion for others, dedication to making a difference, and vision for the future. Exhibiting self-reflection and perseverance, these scholars represent our future leaders (Carson Scholars Fund).
