Team Goals & Philosophy
The Bishop McNamara Tennis Program's primary goal is ensuring that each student athlete learns values that will allow them to achieve success not only in tennis but also in the world outside of tennis. It is extremely important that all student-athletes develop strong skills in the areas of hard work, commitment, communication, and sportsmanship. These goals can be met while having a competitive, fun-filled high school experience with memories to last a lifetime.
Tennis, unlike other sports, generates the discipline to achieve success. Our tennis goals are to work very hard, every day, all year round to improve as an individual and as a team. We have a full schedule that places emphasis on conditioning, on court hitting, and weight training.
The student athletes on the tennis team are students first, and outstanding tennis players second. Our athletes have to be equally committed to the books as they are to the game, which is why each year the tennis team boasts so many outstanding individuals who have achieved summa cum laude and magna cum laude academic status.
The tennis team is coached by James Bennett. Coach Bennett encourages each player to train as hard as possible on a regular basis. This includes training on their conditioning and their on court game. We emphasize that players have an all court game, which allows them to be multi dimensional on the tennis court. Coach Bennett's immediate goal is to get each player skilled enough to play at the next level and to obtain admittance into the college of their choice.
