HONORS COURSES

For students seeking an even more challenging learning experience, Bishop McNamara High School offers a broad selection of honors courses that fulfill basic graduation requirements in English, history, math, and science.  The School’s numerous honors courses provide a more robust level of academic rigor. Honors courses are offered in English, mathematics, science, modern & classical languages, technology, social studies, and fine arts.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES

Bishop McNamara Advanced Placement program offers rigorous college-level curricula and assessments to students in high school. Advanced Placement courses are offered in English language, English literature, calculus, statistics, computer programming, psychology, chemistry, biology, physics, French, Spanish, U.S. history, and European history. Our STEM & Innovation education prepares students to be college and career-ready as STEM-proficient members of society. Bishop McNamara High School strives to maintain a proud tradition in athletics. We expect our athletes, coaches, and fans to represent the student body and the Bishop McNamara community by displaying the highest standards of sportsmanship and self-discipline. 

Bishop McNamara competes in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference at the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels and the Freshmen levels for Boys Basketball.

Creativity and self-expression are essential components of a Bishop McNamara Fine Arts education. Our Fine Arts programs are uniquely placed in both the school's academic and co-curricular life. We offer courses and performance opportunities in Band, Chorus, Dance, Media Arts, Orchestra, Theatre, and Visual Arts. The Fine Arts curriculum is designed to awaken and challenge every student's desire to create. Our Fine Arts department is guided by practicing artists who all share a love, passion, and vocation to teach. 
 
The Fine Arts Department at Bishop McNamara offers one of the most extensive arts educations in the Washington, DC area. Our large musical ensembles, intimate dance classes, theatrical productions, and art studio offer comfortable, rewarding, fun, yet challenging environments for all participating students. We encourage the growth and success of the students. One credit of Fine Arts is required for graduation. Performance-based courses may require additional fees and/or fundraising. Bishop McNamara High School clubs and organizations are student-based school organizations, consisting of administration-approved organizations with myriad interests and functionality.

Each club or organization is composed of students with adults (usually Faculty, Staff, or alumni volunteers) as advising figures to maintain the functionality of clubs.

• BMHS has over 50 clubs and organizations at the school
• Clubs & Organizations range from honor societies, technical teams, special interest groups, and service organizations
• Extra-curricular activities provide students with opportunities to lead, participate, and serve Bishop McNamara, area elementary schools, and community organizations
