STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFERENCES THAT RECEIVE ACCOMMODATIONS
St. Joseph and St. Andre Programs
The St. Joseph Program is designed to provide a positive college-preparatory and social experience for a select group of students who have learning differences and/or other health impairments. Each student admitted to the program is expected to manage the grade-level rigors of a high school curriculum with accommodations. Students receive traditional grade-level schedules with one period designated as a Resource block, which allows students to receive the additional support they need. We provide the intervention strategies for academic support, time management, note-taking, study skills, and organizational skills as well as ensuring each student has access to extended time for assessments. We want to empower students to think on their own, take responsibility for their decisions, and learn how to advocate for themselves by seeking assistance when needed. Students in the program are expected to receive their high school diploma upon graduation.
The St. Andre Program is designed to support students with intellectual disabilities in an inclusive setting. Students in the St. Andre program attend courses with their peers at least half of the day, along with receiving specialized instruction in our St. Andre classroom in reading, math, study skills, and life skills. Students in the St. Andre Program participate in all aspects of the Holy Cross community. They join clubs, and athletics teams; serve at Mass; and participate in choir, dance concerts, and school plays. Students in the St Andre program receive a certificate upon completion of their high school program, signifying their accomplishments here at Bishop McNamara High School. This is a non-diploma program.
On each checklist, you have the option to apply to the St. Joseph Program / St. Andre Program. Please also note that for students with learning disabilities that have an IEP, IAP, CAP, 504 Plan, or other Student Support Plan, admission to Bishop McNamara High School is through the St. Joseph Program. Please note that there are additional requirements needed to evaluate your student.
- St. Joseph Application
- Complete psychoeducational testing report dated no earlier than January 1, 2023. Some schools do not require a psychoeducational test, however Bishop McNamara High School requires this document in order to proceed with the admissions process, no exceptions. If you need to have an updated psychoeducational test completed, please do so as soon as possible to ensure all documents are received for admission evaluation.
- 2 additional recommendations from resources that can attest to the student’s learning style.
- Current IEP, IAP, CAP, 504 Plan, or other Student Support Plan
- Interview - once all documents are received, an Admissions team member will reach out to schedule an interview typically in January-February.
