Mrs. Cherese Carter earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in business marketing and religion from Texas Christian University (TCU), located in her hometown of Fort Worth, TX. She began her counseling career immediately following her undergraduate degree as a high school college advisor for the College Advising Corps, a non-profit college access program that increases the number of underrepresented students who enter and complete college. It is from this experience as a college access advocate, that she was motivated to return to TCU and earn her master’s degree in professional counseling. 
Mrs. Carter is passionate about advocating for the needs of students at every stage of their life. This has led her to most recently hold positions in higher education as a senior admission counselor and also as a college mental health counselor.  As a mental health counselor, she has assisted students in overcoming both short and long-term barriers by providing compassionate care and establishing a trusting relationship. This passion is her daily motivation in helping students build hope and identify their goals for the future. She is thankful for the opportunity to serve at BMHS and looks forward to building relationships with all in the BMHS community.

Mr. Terry Burroughs Jr. is Assistant Director of Counseling for Bishop McNamara as well as the 11th-12th Grade Counselor with last names A-J. He is a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland and a first-generation college graduate. He understands the struggles that first-generation college students may face, which inspires him to serve as a pillar of support for students and their families.
He earned a B.S. in psychology from Frostburg State University.  He continued his studies at Frostburg State University, where he earned an M.Ed. in school counseling. While at Frostburg, Mr. Burroughs worked as a resident assistant (RA) for incoming students.  During his two years as an RA, he mentored and assisted students with navigating the college experience.  Mr. Burroughs is also a board member for Reality Check Mentoring, Inc (RCM), a non-profit organization dedicated to developing the minds of young males of color between ages 10 - 17.
Before joining Bishop McNamara, Mr. Burroughs was a college counselor at Collegiate Directions, Inc. In his previous role, Mr. Burroughs provided comprehensive educational, college, and financial aid planning for the program’s students and families.  He continued to help scholars matriculate to and through college.
