Physical Education Department

Physical Education develops physically literate individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Our students will exhibit qualities of respect, responsibility, empathy, and sportsmanship through participation in a variety of activities.

Our program is designed to assist students to make the connection between good health, physical activity, and the quality of one’s life, thus empowering them to assume responsibility for personal choices, self-esteem, and fulfillment of their greatest potential.

Physical Education plays a critical role in educating the whole child as part of a well-rounded education. Physical Education provides students with opportunities to learn motor skills, develop fitness, and gain an understanding of the importance of physical activity.

Students are expected to take Active for Life during the freshman year followed by Health the sophomore year and an elective if they choose. Active for Life develops health-related fitness while teaching the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity. It is designed to instruct the student in basic motor skills, development of coordination and perception, organized game playing, teamwork, endurance, and strength training. Research tells us that the physical development of the student affects the whole student's development and is specifically interrelated to cognitive development. Students will also demonstrate an understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity.
