Bishop McNamara students take the practice SAT (PSAT) in the fall of their freshman, sophomore and junior years as part of our standardized testing program. These tests are administered during a regularly scheduled school day by BMHS faculty members.

Students are encouraged to take their initial official SAT exam in the second semester of their junior year and again during the fall of the senior year as needed. Registration information is available in the Counseling Center; students must register for the test on-line at

Bishop McNamara is an official SAT test site; students who wish to take the test at Bishop McNamara must use our test center code, 21291, when registering. Students must also enter Bishop McNamara's CEEP code, 210532, when registering in order to have their test scores reported to Bishop McNamara. Students may also choose to take the official ACT in addition to or as an alternative to the SAT. Registration information for the ACT is available in the Counseling Center; students should register for the test on-line at

College Board instituted new security policies for the 2012-2013 testing year. During the registration process students are now required to scan in an acceptable photo for their admission ticket. Students must print the admission ticket and present it, along with an acceptable photo ID (current driver's license, current high school ID) to enter the test center. No student will be admitted without a ticket and a photo ID, even if he/she is a Bishop McNamara student. Walk-in standby test-takers will no longer be admitted and students may no longer change test centers, test dates or test types on the day of the test.

SAT/ACT Test Preparation

Bishop McNamara students interested in preparing for the SAT exam are encouraged to participate in one of the SAT Preparation study programs offered at Bishop McNamara for a much lower cost than comparable programs held elsewhere. These SAT prep classes are taught by BMHS faculty members and are typically held in the fall, the spring and during summer school. The courses focus on the math, writing and critical reading portions of the exam, as well as test taking strategies and tips for handling test anxiety. The sessions vary but classes generally include at least 24 hours of instruction and practice, a full-length practice exam, and a study guide; the fall and spring classes are timed to finish the week before an official SAT exam test date. Links to registration flyers will be posted here and on the Counseling page of the BMHS website several weeks before each session. Students may also find registration forms in the Counseling Center and in their document library on Naviance.

Students are also encouraged to utilize the Method Test Prep application on Naviance. This self-guided study program offers full length practice exams, a daily program of study and review in all phases of the SAT and ACT test, and instant feedback to help students focus on areas that need improvement. Students may access Naviance through the Naviance Succeed link here and on the Naviance page of the website. Password and log-on assistance is available through Mrs. Mendiola in the Counseling Center.
