Mrs. Dian Carter, Principal of Bishop McNamara High School

Mrs. Dian A. Carter

Mrs. Dian A. Carter has been named Principal for Bishop McNamara High School for the 2019-2020 school year.  With her appointment by Dr. Marco J. Clark, School President/CEO, Mrs. Carter becomes the twelfth Principal in school history and she becomes the first woman to serve in this key leadership role.

Serving as the Assistant Principal for the past two years here at Bishop McNamara, Mrs. Carter brings tremendous experience and leadership to this role having served in numerous administrative positions during her distinguished career as an educator and administrator.  During her two years on the Administrative Team, Mrs. Carter has spearheaded numerous initiatives and brings boundless energy to the role, serving as a wonderful mentor and example to our faculty, staff, and students.

I always remind students that we all have dreams and aspirations to be something great, but if we embrace the words in James 1:19 and, ‘are quick to listen, slow to speak and always slow to become angry’, God will speak to us in marvelous ways.  He accepts us on our best days and loves us all the same on our worse days, his love is unconditional.

Prior to coming to Bishop McNamara, Mrs. Carter served as the Principal at Saint Ambrose School in Cheverly, MD. Mrs. Carter earned her BA in English Education from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master’s in Supervision and Administration from Bowie State University. Prior to beginning her tenure as a Catholic educator, she worked as a high school English teacher for Prince George’s and Montgomery County Schools. She began her career as an administrator at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland, as an Assistant Principal and prior to leaving Montgomery County Public Schools, she also served as a Vertical Articulation Specialist, Test Coordinator, and Assistant Principal at Wheaton High School in Wheaton, Maryland.

Mrs. Carter comes to the Bishop McNamara Community with a vast array of experiences, and as she enters her twenty-seventh year as an educator, she is excited to serve as the Interim Principal! Mrs. Carter is an administrator that possesses high standards and expectations of student conduct. She is committed to fostering a culture of respect among students, faculty and staff. As the parent of an alum and a current parent, Mrs. Carter is dedicated and enthusiastic to support the teachers, the students and the parents in every way possible. She is excited to serve as our school community and to help further Bishop McNamara’s vision to form empowered leaders, inspired by the Gospel, who transform the world.

I truly believe that becoming an educator was my calling and, twenty-six years later, with various job titles under my belt, I never once regretted teaching, mentoring, or praying with children and young adults.
