Announcing our new principal, Dr. Nigel Traylor

Bishop McNamara High School is excited to announce the appointment of our new School Principal: Dr. Nigel Traylor.

Previously the Assistant Principal and Academic Dean of Bishop McNamara High School, Dr. Traylor is an exemplary model of Holy Cross ideals who has served the School for several years. Dr. Traylor has served in many administrative and leadership roles throughout his career. He holds several degrees, including a Doctorate of Education with a specialization in educational and organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Additionally, Dr. Traylor is in the process of completing a Master of School Leadership degree from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership from Harvard University.

Not only is Dr. Traylor an accomplished scholar, but he is considered by his colleagues at Bishop McNamara to be a visionary in his field. He works tirelessly with our faculty, staff and administration for the progress of the School and our extraordinary students. He is beloved by his colleagues and will be warmly welcomed into this new position.

"As a leader I cherish traditions, however I believe that it is important to value new ideas," he said. "Transformational leadership is when a leader works with others to identify needed change, creating a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executing the change in tandem with committed members of a group. We need to exude and encourage positivity at McNamara with intentionality and purpose."

Dr. Traylor has an exciting vision to promote and expand the Bishop McNamara standard of excellence.

"First and foremost I believe that everything we do must be rooted in mission and also in the best interest of the students," he said. "We need to ensure that we provide our families with the best Catholic educational experience of which they can be proud. We all must be committed to finding a way to help every student reach his or her highest potential with compassion and dignity."

"This is a great day for Bishop McNamara High School. Dr. Traylor brings with him a wealth of experience, a strong work ethic, positive energy and a compelling vision for the future," said BMHS President/CEO Dr. Marco Clark. "As a visionary leader Dr. Traylor is committed to the unique missions of Holy Cross education as lived out at Bishop McNamara. I am confident that he will lead our school to even greater heights as we look towards the future."

Our previous Principal, Dr. Robert Van der Waag, will continue to serve at BMHS as a member of our teaching faculty. Bishop McNamara High School is excited for this new development, and is confident that our students will continue to benefit from the guidance of both Drs.Traylor and Van der Waag.
