Bishop McNamara's women's lacrosse program is a varsity-level, competitive program committed to create a team of women of character and commitment.
Each year, the lacrosse team is honored for their academic achievements.
The support of your family is key to any success! The Bishop McNamara High School Lax program has a strong family-oriented approach to activities. The parent support is wonderful! Our activities include family picnics and college lacrosse game tailgates. Parents are encouraged to learn the game as their young ladies do; we are aware that some athletes have an interest in the sport, but have not played before!
There is an annual alumni game, where graduates of the program come back to play against the current team. You are always a member of the Bishop McNamara High School Lacrosse family!

The 2010 season marked the first time in which the women's lacrosse program at Bishop McNamara competed at the varsity level. As a result, the team played a hybrid schedule facing half of the WCAC teams at the varsity level and half at the JV level while also playing a series of competitive nonconference opponents. This schedule allowed for two separate programs, a JV and a Varsity, while allowing some athletes to be hybrid players, competing for both teams. In the end, this provided an excellent learning experience for forty fantastic student athletes.
The first varsity lacrosse experience was filled with highs and lows ranging from a close 17-14 loss to rival Bowie High School to a double overtime defeat at the hands of Woodrow Wilson High School. The season, however, concluded on a high not with the team capturing the championship trophy in the inaugural Field School Invitational. In the invitational, the Lady Mustangs had to overcome playing back to back games in order to hoist the trophy and that is exactly what they did. In the first game, BMHS beat Woodrow Wilson by a score of eight to six led by a balanced offense featuring five different goal scorers. The defense held up their end of the bargain with strong individual performances by senior goaltender Janel McCray and Junior defenders Alex Vinci and Nikki DueMogensen. In the second game of the day against Field School, the Lady Mustangs fought back from a three goal deficit for a nine to eight victory. The attack was led by Juniors Christine Stubbs (Tournament MVP) and Carmela Rourke (four goals) and the comeback was topped off with the game winner being scored by freshman Erin Garnes with thirty-one seconds remaining.
The program also excelled off the field. Twenty-nine members of the women's lacrosse program received Academic Honors with fourteen of them achieving Summa Cum Laude, the highest academic honor at Bishop McNamara High School. The team also had 100% participation in community service work, completing over 1,000 hours of community service and countless more service directed at the development and enrichment of the Bishop McNamara Community.
For both the coaching staff and the student athletes, this year served as a phenomenal learning experience as they prepare to enter fully into WCAC competition next season. |
