Women's Varsity Volleyball Season 2009
The team came into the season feeling confident that things would be much improved from the season. Then we all got the bad news, at the end of July, our starting setter was in a horse back riding accident and lost her memory due to a bad concussion. This put some doubt into our minds as to who would step up and fill Allie's shoes until she would be able to get back on to the court. We in fact used 3 different people throughout the season to do so. Hillary, Alyssa and Alexis all stepped up to the challenge throughout the season.
We opened the season playing well against Paul VI and beating Ireton, and then it was on to beat Seton but falling short against St Johns and Good Counsel. Allie was back about mid-season playing her position part of the time, which really helped the morale of the team as well as our record. We beat Holly Cross in 4 and were feeling good about the rest of the season. Then Allie's shoulder went and we returned to our original game plan. Beating, Ryken and Pallotti only to play in the quarter finals against Holy Cross. Needless to say momentum was not with us that day and the season ended on an 8-11 note.
Through out the entire season the team was lead by Co-captains Tamara Weems and Simone Harris. Tamara is looking at George Mason and Albany for her next possible adventures. Our captains lead the team in Kills, Digs, Aces and Blocks. Tamara was named Player of the Year for Prince Georges County as well as her team mates Jasmine Cromartie and Simone Harris were named to the Second Team All County Volleyball Team.
We are looking forward to a healthier team next season as well as a stronger team.
