Congratulations to our BMHS Mustang coach and alumni players who were named to the Gazette's All-Decade Sport's Teams.
Women's Basketball
Coach of the Decade:
Rod Hairston, Roosevelt: When Hairston took over at Roosevelt in 1999, the team was one of the county's worst. He turned them into the state's best. After a 2-18 season his first year, Hairston built a powerhouse that tied a Maryland record by winning five consecutive state championships from 2005-2009. Numerous Roosevelt players from the past decade went on to earn college basketball scholarships, including the entire starting lineup of the 2009 team. Hairston left Roosevelt after the 2008-09 season and currently is the girls' basketball coach at Bishop McNamara.
Players of the Decade:
Kalika France, Class of 2003: The cornerstone of a team ranked No. 19 in the nation by USA Today, France averaged 11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and four steals per game as a senior and was the 2003 Player of the Year before continuing her career at Maryland.
Antelia Parrish, Class of 2004: A focal point of McNamara's team that amassed a 49-game winning streak over parts of two seasons, Parrish averaged 10.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and three assists per game as a senior and was a two-time first-team selection.
